Project: Community Service
"The girls have really devoted themselves to Community Service and Cleanup this year. They did the Adopt-A-Spot program though the Hampton Clean City Commission and have made a 2 year commitment to Ridgeway Park. They helped in planting over 600 trees this past fall and have also been out to clean up the park as well. We have completed several service projects through the Hampton Clean City Commission...cleaning up at Bay Days, a War Memorial Park Cleanup, a Clean your Bay Beach Cleanup on Ft. Monroe, and volunteering at Operation Homefront too!"

Take Action Project: Forever Green Project
"For my silver award project I decided to help educate my community on recycling and conserving natural resources. The first part of my take action project was a Lorax sleepover which included educating other scouts about ways to keep the environment clean. I developed a recycling game to help teach other scouts about separating recyclable material into different boxes; paper, plastic, and aluminum. The second part of my take action project was making bookmarks with interesting facts about conserving natural resources and recycling. I delivered the bookmarks to local schools and libraries."

Take Action Project: Forever Green Lorax Sleepover
"After much research and interviews, I gathered informative packets from the Arbor Day Foundation and printed out materials at our local library about the Lorax that most elementary schools have endorsed in their educational programs. I then, set out to put together a project that peaked the interest of all age groups. Building around the movie theme, I enlisted my sister to design a life size painting of the Lorax background and the truffela trees. On May 17 2013 ,I invited the girls in the community to spend the night viewing the movie, listen to the live book reading an a lot more. I provided each girl with a goody bag of items to take home. It included a "unless rock", forever green pledge, arbor day citizen tree brochure, recycled pencil, lorax swap, and item listing of what should be recycled weekly."

Take Action Project: Forever Green Lorax Sleepover
"I was inspired by the Dr. Suess book, the Lorax. After studying the book, the cartoon, and the Girl Scout Forever Green project, I decided to combine the two together for an all girls sleep over. I found a lot of information online and in the library. With assistance from my sister, I painted 77 lorax rocks with the words, "unless" on it. I also painted a life size background scene to use for the Church. On May 17, 2013, I shared the book, watched the movie, painted seeds and played games with girls from our community. Every girl received and decorated a recycled cinch bag that they took home to use. They signed and took the forever green pledge and vowed to share with others about their experience."
